Description

MH Sensor Series

This is an easy to use sensor module you can use to sense the rotation speed of a rotary disk (used in geared DC motor), by looking at the rate of interruption of IR optical light between the photointerrupter sensor, in term of pulse frequency. You can equip this sensor under mobile robot that has rotary encoder disk to measure the speed of individual motor as a tachometer, so that you can improve the balance of speed between left and right motors. You can also use this sensor to sense thin sheet material such as papers, boards, etc.

Also known as tachometer, speed encoder, optical encoder, speed counter.

Note : this sensor can works with both analog and digital mode. You can connect the analog output (AO) pin to Arduino to read the intensity of optical light, or digital output (DO) to sense the interruption rate. Adjust the potentiometer (a.k.a. trimmer) to set the digital output (DO) sensitivity.

Specific Features

  • Comes with photointerrupter that consists of a pair of infrared emitter and receiver facing each other
  • Interrupting the infrared optical light in between the photointerrupter results the change of output.
  • You may use simple digital reading to sense presence of sheet material, or pulse reading to read speed of encoder disk.
  • You can use analog reading to sense the opaqueness of sheet material.
  • Model code : FC-03

Common Features

  • Logical IC : LM393
  • Operating voltage : 3.3 – 5V
  • Output current : ?15 mA
  • Adjustable sensitivity via potentiometer
  • Comes with LED indicators for POWER and OUTPUT
  • Fixed bolt holes for easy installation
